Misure di velocità superficiale al rock glacier Orientale di Val Pisella (Gruppo del Cevedale, Alta Valtellina)
Determination of surface velocity on the Val Pisella Eastern Rock Glacier (Upper Valtellina, Central Alps)

The preliminary results of determination of surface velocity between 1986 and 1988 on the Val Pisella Eastern Rock Glacier (Upper Valtellina, Italy) are here reported. The maximum horizontal velocity is 40 cm per year in the central and upper part of the rock glacier tongue and it decreases toward the frontal and lateral margins. The flow vectors are perpendicular to the contour lines in the lowest sector of the tongue. From speed data, it is inferred that the rock glacier is some thousands years old.
