Some electrical resistivity surveys were performed on the Val Pisella Rock Glacier (Upper Valtellina, Italy) in the summer of 1989; the main objectives were to detect ice and to determine its nature. All the survey shown high values of resistivity (more than 100 000 Qm with a maximum around 1 000 000 Qm). According to these results the rock glacier contains permafrost in the form of an ice-cemented core of varying ice content; the maximum permafrost thickness is around 5 m. Therefore the rock glacier can be considered an ice-cemented one.
