Landsat linear features: an example of application to structural-geomorphologic analysis in the Campanian Apennines

A linear features analysis was made on the Campanian Apennines in order to study the use of remotely sensed data and field data for structural-gemorphologic analysis. A Landsat image was processed in order to draw a linear features map. A length weighted statistical analysis allowed to recognize 8 trend intervals and prepare the linear features concentration maps. Some of the recognized features were field checked and their associated morphological and structural characters described and dated. The methodology, sistematically used and applied at a regional scale, appears to be a good instrument to separate, among the same trend interval, those structures having the same morphological and structural meaning. This could be a way to understand the relationships between landscape modelling processes and the tectonic events that have been affecting the Apenninic Chain since Upper Pliocene.
