Geomorphological observations on badlands in the Marche region
Keywords:
Badlands, Landslides, Central Italy, MarcheAbstract
In this paper the present-day evolution and genesis of badlands in the Marche region are considered. Most badlands appear to be affected by mass movements which, however, do not alter appreciably their slope geometry. Only in some areas is linear erosion important. Detailed geomorphological maps evidence those two main badland types. The first establishment of badlands is connected with the reactivation, during Holocene time, of linear erosion; the considerable development of the present forms is due however to anthropic activity which eliminated vegetation on slopes.
