Structural and geomorphological studies have been carried out in a sample zone located in the River Crati Valley (northern Calabria). Aim of this work is to analyse the relationships between tectonic structures, landforms and landslides in an area, 72 km2 large, located in an intensely tectonically deformed zone characterised by a very high frequency of slope instability. Structural setting has been obtained through field surveys at macroscopic and mesoscopic scale. To acquire and to process geomorphic data a Geographic Information System (G.I.S.) has been used. The maps of litho-technical complexes, landslides and elementary morphological units has been digitised and georeferenced. The study has shown that the structural elements control the territory al distribution of landslides and, to a lesser extent, that of elementary morphologic units. Also landslide typology within tectonically deformed bands of different litho-technical complexes, appears to be modified with respect of what is found in non intensely jointed outcrops.
