Climatic fluctuations of the snow-day numbers at Plateau Rosà (Pennine Alps)

Abstract

An application of the sequential median’s test points out the timeseries of the number of snow-days at Plateau Rosà is subdivisible in three partial series. Both the means and the variances result to be stationary in each of them. The means decrease in significant way from the first to the third set, while the variances have a slight and not significant increase. The means. are the following: — 18 «winters» 1952-53 up to 1969-70 161.4 days; — 9 «winters» 1970-71 up to 1978-79 130.4 days; — 11 «winters» 1979-80 up to 1989-90 103.5 days. d A negative trend and two climatic discontinuities are thus pointed out.
