Modificazioni morfologiche e dissesti del terreno determinati dall’estrazione del salgemma in Val di Cecina (Toscana)
Morphological changes caused by rock salt exploitation in the Cecina basin (Tuscany)

The Author studies the changes in landscape due to the mining of rock salt in a zone of the Cecina basin. The salt forms lenticular deposits in the Messinian layers and it is exploited by dissolution in situ. The voids caused by exploitation produce important saggings and some collapses in the surface ground. In this paper the new morphology, generated by these phenomena, is studied; in the last part of the work a quantitative evaluation of the ground settling is carried out for two sample areas.
