Abstract

A short summary of the present knowledge on the climate variability is presented, on the basis of the geologic evidence. Ice ages, glacial/interglacial cycles, millennial and sub-millennial climate cycles and their possible causes are mentioned. Forcing factors and feedbacks operating in the climate system are briefly considered. A look into the future of climate is given, starting from the knowledge of the past climate.
