Possibilità di impiego del Remote Sensing da satellite per il controllo annuale dei ghiacciai
Possibilities of using satellite Remote Sensing for the annual monitoring of glaciers

The analysis of the glacier movements with the satellite imagery has been investigated and a procedure has been set up to obtain for each glacier: the surface, the perimeter and the length of the glaciers’ snout. The surface of 720 glaciers of the Italian Alps has been estimated with an average deviation of 14 % and the surface evolution error is less than 20% for 82% of glaciers. From the movements and lengths of the glaciers snout it has been obtained that the annual surface fluctuations of 74% glaciers are detectable with the present spatial resolution in satellites images.
