Abstract

After a break of few years, the monitoring of the Calderone Glacier, Gran Sasso d'Italia Mountain Group, Central Appennines, has been started again in 1994. Data collected during Summer 1994 are related to the thickness of snow and to its rhythm of melting. The field survey on the glacier has been developed in three phases: at the beginning, about in the middle and at the end of Summer 1994. Data confirmed the trend of a remarkable accumulation of snow during Winter and Spring, nevertheless totally melted during Summer and so not contributing to the supply of the Calderone. So the Calderone keeps on with its phase of severe reduction.
